Best-selling albums in Europe by year

The year-end list of best-selling albums in Europe was first published in 1985 by Eurotipsheet magazine (in 1986 it changed name to Music & Media). The charts were based on national albums sales charts in 16 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Later Hungary and Czech Republic were added. The final year-end list by Music & Media was issued in № 2-3 — January 11, 2003. In August 2003 the magazine was closed. For year-end charts from 2003 to 2010 Billboard’s special “Year in Music” issues have been used.
